Football is not a sport for the weak, but for those who chooses to persevere no matter the circumstance. Redshirt Freshman Quarterback Gevani Mccoy is seen consistently climbing to the top as he chooses to persevere and improve each game he plays.
As the season continues, he has proven his spot despite the ups and downs.
At 6-foot, 175 pounds, Mccoy was crowned the Stats Perform FedEx Ground National Freshman Player of the Week after the Vandals defeated Northern Colorado 55-35.

Mccoy has a completion percentage of 73.7% (112-152),1,374 passing yards and 12 touchdowns.
In a press conference with head coach Jason Eck on Sept. 26, Eck smirked as he expressed how proud he was of Mccoy’s journey.
“Seeing his growth has been pretty amazing, he’s set the school record for completion percentage,” Eck said. “He’s played at a really high level, and he continues to get better every week.”
In the Vandals latest game against Montana, Mccoy played a vital role in reclaiming the Little Brown Stein for the first time since 1999. He went 21/27 for 286 yards and two touchdowns.

Mccoy’s 2022 season started low—with just 12 seconds left, his pass was intercepted, and the Vandals lost against Washington State 24-17 in their season opener.
The intercepted pass would have given the Vandals a shot to win or go into overtime. Despite this, he continued to persevere as he went 13/23 on passing attempts, scored three touchdowns and threw zero interceptions in the following game against Indiana.
He didn’t stop there. In the Vandals home opening 42-14 win over Drake University, Mccoy played extravagantly. He went 17/23 for 175 yards and a touchdown.

Against Northern Arizona on Sept. 24, Mccoy once again didn’t fail to impress as he went 18/20 for 184 yards and another touchdown. His effort helped Idaho win 27-10 in their conference opener.
Mccoy is one of many Vandals who has reaped the fruits of his labor through perseverance as he continues to build his legacy.
Catch Mccoy again as the Vandals play Portland State in the Kibbie Dome on Oct. 22 at noon.
