ASUI Senators met for the first time since Spring Break at the meeting on March 19.

President Martha Smith has been busy onboarding new ASUI cabinet members and said she is “excited to have a full team again.”

Smith reminded everyone about the upcoming Vandal Giving Day, which will take place April 1-2.

Over spring break, pro tempore Anya Zuercher hosted an event in collaboration with the International Programs Office. They served pizza to international students who remained on campus over the break, which was important since most dining places shut down over the break.

Senator Zoha Aqueel sponsored a resolution that states that ASUI is here to represent and support all students at the University of Idaho. Its goal is to achieve representation of all groups on campus.

“I want everyone to feel that they are heard and supported,” Aqueel said.

The resolution passed unanimously.

Senator Lance Butikofer sponsored a resolution to recognize the last week of March as National Farm Workers Awareness Week, acknowledging the positive impact that farm workers have on our country and our community. It also passed unanimously.

Senator Arielle Hebison sponsored a bill that would allocate $100 for Cruise the World tickets that would be given away. The goal of this bill is to foster cultural appreciation and increase engagement with the event.

“We want to show appreciation by making sure students attend this event,” Hebison said.

Aqueel added that promoting this event and increasing excitement around it will “support the students who spent hours making the food.”

The bill also passed unanimously.

Vice President Emma Johnston has been working with Career Services and Alumni Relations to plan a senior cocktail social hour at the Lookout, an event which will be the first of its kind.

Additionally, Johnston has been working on finding a way to purchase New York Times Games for UI students to use. She said she is researching ways to navigate the pricing, possible collaborations with different campus groups and ways to give out licenses for use.
