Vandals T&F, Swimming display strong performances over the weekend

Track and Field 

UI spent the weekend in Spokane for the Riverfront Invitational and Multis, a three-day event which saw two Vandals continue strong performances this season. However, the star of the show was Sophomore Blossom Omogor also had a few big performances as well: She ran 24.29 in the 200-meter dash, not only a personal best but also best in the conference and in UI history 

Freshman Jesuye Doherty recorded a 7.6-meter jump in the long jump, his best this year and leading in the Big Sky. He is currently ranked 36th in the nation. Senior Annika Jozin recorded 1.73 meters in the high jump, her best this season, leaving her tied atop the conference. 

Junior Cash Jones ran a 6.89 in the 60-meter sprint, his best so far this season. She also ran a 7.57 in the 60-meter dash, within the top 10 in the Big Sky and top five in UI history.  

Track and field continues this week with three different events in three locations all on the same couple of days. Starting Feb. 14 and running until Feb. 15 UI Track and Field will be in Spokane at the Whitworth Indoor Invitational; Vandals will also compete in the Don Kirby Elite Invitational in Albuquerque, as well as the Husky Classic at the University of Washington. 

Swimming 

UI Swim and Dive hosted another meet this weekend in the UI Swim Center against the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros. It was a dominant 222-72 win for the Vandals. UI finished first in 14 of the 16 events of the match, including four of the top five in 3-meter diving. 

Freshman Holly Lenarz swam the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:17.86 and freshman Marie Mason finished second at 17:38.52. 19-year-old Ginger Kiefer finished atop the leaderboard of the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:48.93. 

Other events included the 200-yard medley relay, 100- and 200-yard backstroke, 100- and 200-yard breaststroke, as well as 100- and 200-yard fly, 50-, 100- and 500-yard freestyle. The two events in which the Vaqueros took first place were the 500-yard freestyle and 1-meter diving.  

The Vandals improved to 5-3 overall and 4-1 in the conference. They will be in Houston, Texas on Feb. 26 for the WAC championships, an all-day event from the CRWC Natatorium.
