As the semester nears its end, Vandals retreat to their dorms and the library to prepare for finals. Dead week can be an anxiety-inducing time for everyone. When your days are stressful and your nights run long, it is important to keep in mind your own physical and mental state. Even though good test scores are crucial, so is your health—with a poor body or mind, there is no way for you to do well in school. Hopefully, by noting these study tips, you can gain that extra push you need to make it through this week!
- Make a study schedule
- Track your goals as well as specific times of the day that you would like to allocate for each subject.
- Take study breaks
- Get up and move around! Whether you choose to go on a walk, do some light stretches or chat with a friend for a moment—this break can greatly help ease and clear your mind.
- Teach a friend
- Explain to someone else what you’ve learned as if you’re the teacher. This will help you memorize the content and make sure you understand it.
- Find the perfect study spot
- UI has many great study spaces. Check out the library, Thomas Hammer or even ask a friend for their recommendations.
- Celebrate small wins
- Acknowledge the progress you have made during this semester. You have made it this far; you deserve that personal recognition!
Wishing you success, confidence and the best of luck, Vandals! May your hard work and studying all pay off. Ace those exams and enjoy the winter break with the people you love!
