A playful Christmas adventure movie for the whole family

“Red One” is Hollywood’s newest action-packed Christmas comedy, in which Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans team up to save Christmas. It hit theaters Friday, Nov. 15 to kick off the holiday season.

The movie attempts to balance the light and joy that is Christmas with high-energy, Guardians of the Galaxy-esque action and humor, succeeding in some areas and struggling in others. It follows Jack O’Malley (Chris Evans), a talented bounty hunter and deadbeat dad, and Callum Drift (Dwayne Johnson), who must work together to save an incredibly ripped Santa Clause (JJ Abrams) after he’s been kidnapped by Grylla (Kiernan Shipka), the Christmas Witch, determined to punish all children on the dreaded Naughty List.

The undoubted star of this movie is Chris Evans, who always does a fantastic job of playing a man whose life falls to shambles. His comedic timing is unmatched and his high energy complements The Rock’s stoic demeanor. Despite some of the lines of the movie coming off as perhaps too serious for a film with an overwhelming backdrop of holiday cheer, it is able to poke fun at the fact and make for an overall fun, lighthearted movie that the whole family can enjoy.
