October flew by and the highly anticipated staple of the month, Halloween, is finally here. Whether you’re a busy college student, work a full-time job, procrastinated or simply forgot about the holiday, this guide to creating a last-minute costume will help make sure that you don’t need to skip out on dressing up this year.

Pick a simple costume idea

The most important part of a last-minute costume is simplicity. Picking a simple costume such as a cat or a vampire will ensure that you’ll be able to find something. Dressing up as a cat is as simple as wearing an all-black outfit and getting some cheap ears from the store.

Check the thrift stores

It’s likely that you’re going to have a DIY costume this year if you haven’t gotten one yet, so the best place to find pieces on a budget is the thrift stores. Thrifting pieces for your costume means that you don’t have to possibly ruin some of your own clothes that you love; instead, you can ruin a $3 T-shirt that you got from Goodwill.

Look online for inspiration

Many people have been in the spooky situation of needing a costume when Halloween is in only a few days, so do a quick Google search or scour your Pinterest to find some inspiration! You can find tutorials all over the Internet to show you how to make a last-minute costume, or you can find something simple that you may want to copy exactly.

When in doubt, dress festively

Even if you completely forgot and didn’t end up finding a costume, you can always dress festively or do some cool Halloween-inspired makeup. Wearing orange, black or something with classic Halloween elements such as pumpkins, skeletons or bats still counts as dressing up and being festive!
