Blot is a magazine run entirely by students at the University of Idaho. It originated in 1946, but it was discontinued in the 1950s due to a lack of funding. It returned in 2005 and “has been active every semester since,” according to Blot’s website.

An interview with Olivia Pham revealed the purpose of the magazine. “Student media brought Blot magazine back with the intention to have a place where students who are interested in journalism, photography, graphic design can work and create together,” Pham said. It also serves as a way for students to practice professionalism and use their skills in the workplace.

Blot’s goals for the future, according to Pham, are “to inform current events and spread kindness to the student body and anyone who comes across Blot.” Blot has achieved this in recent semesters and aims to continue doing so. The magazine plans to release a new issue in fall 2024. The theme for this edition is “Made in Moscow.”  “We are focusing on student life, academic prospects and many more specifically from the Moscow, Idaho area,” Pham said. The upcoming edition will feature a few changes, such as new formatting. “And potentially a poster included in our magazine, so keep an eye out for our new edition,” Pham said.

When asked about her role, Pham said, “As chief editor, my role is to inspire my staff and editors.” She also said, “Understandably, my job is also keeping track of work progress, creating plans, assigning jobs and communicating with everyone.”

Blot continues to spread kindness and remains a source of positivity for UI students and others. The future looks bright for Blot.
