In celebration of homecoming week, the entire ASUI Senate sang along to the University of Idaho fight song to show their Vandal pride at this week’s ASUI senate meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 2.

Participants of an ASUI tabling event for homecoming this week gave out “roughly over a thousand flyers,” according to Vice President Emma Johnston. She thanked everyone who helped print and cut those flyers and looks forward to seeing people at Serpentine and the parade.

The senate honored the homecoming committee for upholding traditions and making this homecoming week unforgettable.

Jack Hatten, Director of Athletics for ASUI, has been working with Johnston to produce a “Screen on the Green” watch party for the Vandals’ next away football game. This has included setting up a Wi-Fi router to stream the game, coordinating portable toilets and collecting donations for food. They hope that this will be an embraced tradition for future generations.

Johnston also said she has been “formulating ideas on how to improve student involvement with athletics.”

President Martha Smith has met with Julie Fry, the Latah County Clerk, to continue her efforts of setting up the Recreation Center for election day.

“Be ready to volunteer,” Smith told her senators. She anticipates it to be a very busy day.

Additionally, the senate has proposed a bill that allocates $100 for the purchasing of candies for a “Candies for Candidates” tabling event. This event will promote information about candidates running in the November election and their policies.

Pro-Tempore Anya Zuercher, sponsor of the bill, said, “It’s really important that students are informed and, as the school’s senate, it is the main thing we should try to do. We want to make sure we are letting them know what [the candidates’] values are and who they can pick based on those values.”

Multiple senators were a part of the ISUB Board’s meeting, a bi-annual event. This year, they discussed current ISUB space utilization and the future of what it could be, including their plans to add a trophy case.

ASUI will be posting a giveaway raffle for $50 gift card on Instagram. They encourage all students to enter.
