Dad’s Homemade Salsa | Brooklyn Jolley | Argonaut

Summer is slowly fading away, but here’s a way to hold onto its vibrant flavors just a little longer. This recipe is a great way to celebrate summer one last time and go out with a bang! It’s no secret that dads often make the best salsa, so what better recipe to follow than this one?

Ingredients:

  • 18-24 Roma tomatoes, diced and deseeded
  • 1 bell pepper, orange or yellow
  • A variety of peppers, minced
  • Jalapenos, habaneros, and soranos are best.
  • For spicier salsa, add one of each pepper; for milder salsa, use only ½-⅓ of each
  • 1 ½ bunches cilantro, minced
  • 1 red onion, diced
  • 2-3 limes, juiced
  • 6-8 cloves garlic, crushed
  • Lemon pepper, to taste
  • Tajin, to taste
  • Johnny’s Seasoning Salt, to taste

Note: Wear gloves when cutting peppers.

Directions:

  1. Wash all tomatoes, cut them in half and remove the seeds.
  1. Dice the tomatoes, bell pepper and onion. Mince the cilantro and put everything into a large bowl.
  1. Wear gloves for this step: chop your peppers and take the seeds out. Add to the large bowl.
  1. Juice your limes and add to the bowl along with the crushed garlic, lemon pepper, Tajin and Johnny’s Seasoning Salt.
  1. Adjust spices to taste. Mix well and serve with your favorite chips.

Enjoy this fresh, zesty salsa as a perfect farewell to summer!
