GALLERY: Vandal Healing Garden stands as beacon of light

The monument’s many light features pierce through the darkness

While nighttime settles over campus, a beacon stands shining at the top of the Academic Mall: it glows to represent the light of students that we have lost. The Vandal Healing Garden, officially opened last month, serves as a reminder and place of healing for students who have experienced loss.

There are many physical reminders throughout the memorial that can help remind us of ones that we have lost. One of the most prominent is the shelves of bottles, meant to house notes written by people who come to grieve.

The sculpture in the middle of the gazebo also radiates its energy throughout the space, rippling softly in the breeze.

And one final reminder stands atop the hill, to the south. A literal beacon, it shines over campus, bathing all who see it in its glow.
