On Wednesday evening, the booming sound of country music could be heard anywhere from the Academic Mall to the Wallace Residence Center. The source turned out to be a single speaker sat atop a truck, providing a beat for dozens of dancers to step, dip and twirl to.

Evan Wiley, a frequent country swing dancer, sent out a text to his church group chat earlier that day to meet up. “It just kind of came together. I was like ‘Yo, let’s meet at the law parking lot, 9 p.m.… since the weather’s nice,’” he said.

From there, word spread to another church group, then the UI Country Swing Dance Club. All people coming together for a night of fun under a single street light.

“Just very spontaneous,” Wiley said.
