The Vandal Healing Garden, designed as a place to honor all Vandals who have died while enrolled at the University of Idaho, will officially open on Wednesday, Aug. 21, at 4:30 p.m.

Within the garden, a memorial sculpture that was crafted in memory of Xana Kernodle, Ethan Chapin, Kaylee Goncalves, and Maddie Mogen, victims of the tragedy that occurred in November 2022, will also be revealed.

The garden was created by students from UI’s College of Art and Architecture as an incredibly important project for the university.

Blaine Eckles, Dean of Students, told the university, “The garden is an incredible reflection of our students and how much they have cared about this project. It is a legacy that will outlast any of our time here. This student-led project shows the dedication, care, and resilience of our student body. It truly showcases what it means to be a Vandal and honors our lost Vandals in a beautiful manner.”

The garden is located on MacLean Field, between the Physical Education Building and the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences Building.

The dedication ceremony will be open to the public.
