July is in full swing now, and it brought some sweltering weather with it! It’s been in the high 90s all around the Palouse recently, and with this scorching weather, everyone needs some way to beat the heat and cool off.

#1: Get Some Ice Cream

Ice cream, popsicles, or any other cold, sweet treat is the best way to beat the heat! Panhandle Cone and Coffee in downtown Moscow has some of the best ice cream flavors! Take a trip with your friends and family and enjoy some tasty ice cream. You can keep it classic and budget-friendly by going to Walmart or Target and getting a big box of Otter Pops to munch on when you’re overheated.

#2: Go Swimming

Swimming is always an awesome and fun way to cool off on the days that get too hot. The University of Idaho Swim Center and the Hamilton-Lowe Aquatics Center are great options for swimming if a lake or river isn’t your forte! If you’re willing to take a little drive, Lake Coeur d’Alene is a great spot, along with Hells Gate State Park in Lewiston.

#3: Stay Hydrated

The most important way to conquer this heatwave is to always drink enough water and stay hydrated. It’s easy to get dehydrated when you’re sweating, so always keep a water bottle with some fresh ice water nearby!

#4: Have a Water Balloon Fight

Whether you’re staying at home this summer or at school for a summer term, having a water balloon fight with friends is always a fun way to cool off when it’s hot. Gather friends or family members in your backyard or at the park, and let the water balloon fight begin! Don’t forget to be conscious of what’s around you, too.

#5: Do Fun Activities Indoors

If you can stay out of the heat entirely, that’s great! Go on a little shopping trip or have a nice meal at a restaurant and enjoy the cool air conditioning inside. If you have air conditioning at your house, stay inside and have a fun movie or board/card game night!
