Thirteen months after his arraignment, a trial date of June 2025 is expected for Bryan Kohberger, the man accused of murdering four University of Idaho students in November of 2022.
Kohberger appeared in court on Thursday for a hearing regarding his trial’s scheduling. At the hearing, Judge John Judge discussed the scheduling order he submitted to the prosecution and defense. Both the defense and prosecution agreed that a June 2025 trial date worked.
“I’m trying to do this sooner rather than later,” Judge said.
Kohberger was arrested in January 2023 in Pennsylvania at his parents’ home. He was extradited to Idaho and remanded to the Latah County jail in Moscow, where he remains. He faces four counts of murder and one count of burglary in connection with the homicides of Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin, whose bodies were found in a King Road house on Nov. 13. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
Kohberger was indicted on the charges in May 2023, and a judge entered a not-guilty plea for him later that month at his arraignment.
The university was gifted the house after the murders by the owner, and UI demolished the home in December 2023, with approval from both the defense and prosecution.
