Head Women’s Volleyball Coach Chris Gonzalez resigned from the University of Idaho on Friday, May 31. ending a months-long investigation of alleged abuse of players that disrupted spring practices and recruiting.
According to a UI press release, the investigation into allegations of mental, physical, and emotional abuse against his team has concluded and UI will be taking no further action.
Gonzalez was put on administrative leave on March 27, as UI investigated complaints brought by volleyball athletes in 2022 and 2023.
In early 2024, a case manager was provided for the student-athletes. The case manager was present at all practices where Gonzalez was present and others where he was not. UI provided mental health and support resources for the players.
In the press release, UI wrote, “With this resolution, we look forward to the volleyball program rebuilding an environment in which our student-athletes can be comfortable and succeed both on the court and off.”
