After six months of silence, UI’s students are speaking out about the Palestine and Israel war. The “Free Palestine Week of Action” is taking place from April 22 to the 26.
There will be a public comment from ASUI on April 24 at 7 p.m. This will happen during the normal ASUI meetings in the White-Water room in the ISUB. According to the flier regarding the event, it states that the goal is to “push a resolution to cut ties with the University of Haifa [and] send a letter to Boise.”
It should be noted that UI does not officially have a relationship with the University of Haifa.
“We are trying to get the University to release statements about what is happening and ASUI, for them to be on board with us and send out resolutions,” a demonstrator who wished to remain anonymous due to the controversial nature of the subject, said.
The most notable event will be on Thursday, April 25, at 12 p.m. outside the UI library, where protestors who stand with Palestine will demonstrate.
On April 23, demonstrators had a table in the central courtyard by the library, where they talked to students and handed out buttons and fliers around their cause.
“We are here because for seven months have been paying attention to what’s happening in Gaza and Palestine and the genocide happening there by Israel on our tax dollars,” the anonymous demonstrator said. “We are trying to get the attention of the University and the Boise capital. Vandals do not agree with their stance on what happening in Gaza.”
Students and several clubs such as the Amnesty International Club and others host the events.
“This is one of the biggest atrocities in our lifetime and happening on our dime,” the anonymous demonstrator said.
Information is limited, but more information on this topic can be found at the events and demonstrations.
