ASUI senators announce bills regarding safety apps, holiday tables, and final festival snacks

ASUI meeting recap: resolutions, apps, and allocations

At the last ASUI meeting, Vice President Loffer discussed new business as well as addressing old business.  

The first resolution discussed was F23-R10, a resolution supporting International Men’s Day on November 19th to raise awareness about men’s health.  

This resolution was presented by President Tanner McClain, and supported by many senators. This resolution was put forth to promote positive male role models, celebrate men’s positive contributions to society and community, focus on men’s health and wellbeing, highlight discrimination against men, improve gender relations, and, finally. create a safer and better campus. This resolution was not passed nor rejected.  

The next resolution that was discussed was F23-R11, a resolution honoring Fred Cornforth. This resolution was presented by ASUI President McClain, ASBSU President Sheen, and ASISU President Watts and sponsored by pro tempore Johnston. This resolution asks that Boise State, the University of Idaho, and Idaho State University admire and acknowledge the generosity of Fred Cornworth, whose commitment and benevolence have significantly enhanced the resources and services of each university’s food pantries. This resolution was neither passed nor rejected.  

Vice President Loffer then presented new business. The first resolution presented was F23-R12, a resolution encouraging students at the University of Idaho to download the Rave Guardian app. This resolution was introduced by Senator McCulloch and sponsored by Senator Shresta. This resolution encourages students to download The Rave Guardian app which provides access to campus safety resources and increases the security of all students.  

Senator McCulloch says, “I encourage students to download the safety app Rave Guardian, it increases security and safety on campus.” This resolution was neither passed nor rejected.  

Next was bill F23-B13, an act allocating $250 for the purchase of supplies and food for the holiday tabling event. This bill was authored by Senator McCulloch and sponsored by Senator Shrestha. This bill, if approved by the Senate, shall transfer $250 from the ASUI senate allocation budget to cover the cost of holiday supplies, snacks, and craft-making materials for a tabling event in the ISUB. All leftover food will be donated to the Vandal Food Pantry and leftover money will be put back into the account.  

Senator McCulloch stated “Finals week is a stressful time for students. Providing them with fun activities and food can hopefully make the environment better for all Vandals.” This bill was not passed or rejected.  

The last bill that was presented was F23-B14 allocating $300 for the purchase of final fest snacks and academic resources. The author of this bill is the director of academic affairs Shelby Hobbs, sponsored by Anya Suercher. This bill, if the senate approves, would transfer $300 from the ASUI Senate Allocation Budget to cover the cost of Finals Fest, including pizza, sandwiches, snacks, drinks, academic resources flyers, and stickers. All leftover food will be donated to the Vandal Food Pantry and all leftover money will be returned to the account. This bill was not rejected or passed.
