Kaylee Peterson is a congressional candidate running for the House of Representatives in the upcoming election in 2024. She is currently the opponent of current congressman Russ Fulcher. In a meeting held this Thursday during the University of Idaho Young Democrats meeting, Peterson talked about her views and why she is running.

“I got involved through a Facebook post,” Peterson said. “Through Idaho woman for Biden and Harris asking for volunteers to put their name down on a ballot.”

When speaking about her priorities through her campaign, Peterson said, “I am incredibly progressive in my policy stances. Climate change, the housing crisis, human rights, protecting marginalized communities.”

When talking about Idaho under her opponent Russ Fulcher, Peterson said, “Working-class people in Idaho no matter what spectrum they are, are suffering right now. I don’t know a millennial family that isn’t living paycheck-to-paycheck.” She further went on to discuss her accountability campaign to “point out where Russ Fulcher is going wrong”.

When asked about agriculture, Peterson said, “Farmers are most likely to be on food stamps.” She went on to say, “Farm families are suffering. And because we are unable to keep the next generation in the state, small family farming is losing their family farms because there is no one to take the mantle.” Peterson also continued to explain that big farm companies come in and buy the family farms. “There is absolutely nothing incentivizing locals to buy property.”

When the meeting concluded, Peterson added when talking about her campaign, “It’s not just politics. It’s personal.”
