The University of Idaho is a safe place to go to school, according to a campus crime report released earlier this month. There were no major crimes reported on campus for the past three years.
The Clery Act, passed in 1990, requires college and universities to gather and report crime that takes place on their campuses. The UI crime report was released on Oct. 1.
The crime report covered 2020, 2021 and 2022 at UI. The UI campus has stayed safe due to the low amount of crime happening on campus, according to the report. In this crime report the murders of Kaylee Goncalves, Ethan Chapin, Xana Kernodle and Madison Mogen were not reported since they did not happen on UI campus.
However, on campus, there were very few primary crimes such as robbery, aggravated assault, burglary and other offenses.
Along with primary crimes, there were a limited number of sexual offenses, VAWA offenses (which stands for The Violence Against Women Act), arrests and disciplinary referrals. There was reportedly one hate crime in 2020, none in 2021 and one in 2022.
