The University of Idaho’s Fencing Club is kicking off their Autumn session and looking for new people to clash swords with.
They currently have 15 active and prospective members that are already practicing and looking ahead to an end-of-season tournament. The club is open to UI students of all fitness levels and experience is not required. The club meets twice a week in room 111 in the Physical Education Building on Tuesdays and Fridays, with practices running from 2:30 pm to 5 pm and 4 pm to 6:30 pm respectively.
Anyone looking to join the fencing club can participate in 3 trial practices, if interested the club dues are just $50 a semester and then $90 for a full year. All gear that is needed to participate is provided by the club, from foils to face masks the fencing club has participants fully suppliedfor a the fall semester.
Led by two tenured coaches, who have been fencing since college themselves, new members can look forward to a tight camaraderie that Club President Lily Winde says sharpens the skills of all members.
Winde also believes that the diversity of the club is one of its strengths because members constantly learn from others of different skill levels and techniques.
New members can also look forward to the two end-of-semester intraclub tournaments in which the clubs’ members can showcase their hard-earned skills. With an active member who is last year’s champion, one can expect a flurry of skill to be put on display at both events.
