Demolition of the King Roadhouse has been delayed by the University of Idaho once again, according to an article by the Idaho Statesman. The decision came two weeks after Bryan Kohberger, the defendant in the Moscow homicides trial, waived his right to a speedy trial, which suspended it indefinitely.
The decision to demolish the house was initially supposed to happen in October, but due to Kohberger’s trial being postponed, so was the decision to demolish the crime scene.
Though the house will not be demolished this semester, discussions regarding when the house should be demolished will begin in December.
The King Road House has gathered lots of unwanted attention from the media since November. For some members of the community, the King Road house stands as a reminder of the heinous acts committed in November, while others in the community believe that the destruction of the house would impact the trial.
Kohberger’s trial date still has not been scheduled. Kohberger’s next court appearance will be Sept. 13, in a hearing discussing the availability of cameras in the courtroom for the trial. After that, on Sept. 22, there will be another hearing regarding the defense’s motion to dismiss the indictment brought against Kohberger. The decision for the Sept. 22 hearing will massively impact the scheduling of the trial.
