This past Monday, efforts were put forth to raise $25,000 for a scholarship in memorial of Jace Malek and Collin Sather, two Vandal football players who passed away from cancer in 2015 and 2019 respectively.
“As a former teammate and person who knew Chase Malek very well, I can tell you that his impact will last on me forever,” former Idaho quarterback, and current wide receiver’s coach, Matt Linehan said.
In just four days, 67 donors have contributed $17,183 towards the endowment. There are six days left to raise the rest.
According to the donation page, the scholarship, named after the two athletes, will be awarded annually to Vandal Football players from the Spokane, Eastern Washington, and/or North Idaho communities. There are currently 15 players on the team who fit these criteria.
Although Linehan didn’t have the opportunity to meet Sather, he’s heard a lot about the impact he had on others, and is glad to see that his impact, and Malek’s, will continue.
“It’s a special feeling to know that they have made an impact on so many,” Linehan said. “So, we continue to thank you guys for your support and hope to keep these guy’s legacies going through this.”
Over the next six days, those who would like to make donations can do so here.
