The University of Idaho women’s basketball team has entered a new era with the hiring of Carrie Eighmey.

Eighmey has been coaching college basketball since 2004 and has been a head coach since 2012. Her first job was as an assistant coach at Hastings College from 2004-2008. After the 2008 season, she took over as the Fort Hayes State assistant coach, where she stayed from 2008-2012.

In 2012, Eighmey returned to Hastings as the head coach. After going under .500 in her first season, she turned things around in her second. She went from 15-16 to 28-6, getting to the NAIA elite eight. In 2014-2015 she led them to another 20-win season and the NAIA final four.

After the 2015 season, she left to be head coach at University of Nebraska Kearney. From 2019-2023, her teams had 20 plus win seasons, with a NCAA tournament berth coming in the 2022-23 season.

Eighmey enters Idaho with two starters in the portal and another starter already joining a new program. She also comes to a program that is looking to win after going under .500 for two straight seasons.
