In a brief meeting Tuesday, the Faculty Senate discussed changes to Lionel Hampton and the ongoing search for the College of Business and Economics’ new dean.

Wrapping up the meeting, Faculty Chair Kelly Quinnett joked, “(we beat) the record of the shortest Faculty Senate meeting ever.”

Lionel Hampton

University of Idaho’s annual Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, ongoing for its fifty-sixth year, has been moved to April 19-22 for 2023.

“A little bit of a test to see if a different time would work better,” Vice Provost Torrey Lawrence said.

Last year’s Jazz Fest took place at the end of February, bringing in students from across Idaho. The festival features bands, workshops and presentations on music history.

Dean search

There is an ongoing search for a CBE dean, with candidates likely to come to campus at the end of February.

This follows the previous Dean Marc Chopin who began his position in 2016, according to Idaho Business Review.

Degree changes

The Bachelor’s for Medical Sciences has been altered to be Hy flex, offering delivery to the Coeur d’Alene campus.

The Master’s for Adult Organizational Learning and Leadership was moved fully online, with the thesis option being removed. Laura Holyoke, department chair, said that the thesis option requires significantly more credits, deterring students from pursuing it.

This article has been edited to clarify that Faculty Senate simply discussed the change of dates for Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival. The senate did not decide on this change.
