Want to see a horror movie in the place it first became classic? Moscow Film Society is working with the University of Idaho Film studies class to bring you their choice for some classic horror films. “Wicked Wednesday,” a weekly screening of a classic horror movie, takes place at the Kenworthy Performing Arts Centre in Moscow Idaho. Every Wednesday up to the twenty-sixth, the theater will be playing a movie chosen by groups of students.
COVID lockdowns hit many small businesses hard, especially local theaters. In an effort to revive this important media outlet, the students have picked a selection of media that they believe are Halloween must-sees and have organized an event that they hope will create a memorable experience. The upcoming films are:
Oct. 19: The Shining (1980)
Oct. 26: Halloween (1978)
The theater itself has undergone some massive changes since it was first built in1908, yet remains almost identical to how it looked in the sixties. Halloween is a time of dress-up and make believe, so it might be easy for attendees to imagine themselves watching these movies in the time when they were first released.
Devin Mendenhall, primary event coordinator for the Kenworthy said, “The students can work on bringing in a younger audience that maybe hasn’t been to the Kenworthy before. They (the students) chose all the films as a countdown from the present time to the 90’s and 80’s. Scream was sold out with over 260 tickets sold. We want to do something different; we want to do something that is special and different, that’s what the Moscow Film society is all about.”
This Halloween movie showing hopes to be a high-end experience that will revive the nostalgia and love of theaters that Moscow has always held.
Tickets for the screenings can be found at the front desk on Wednesday or can be purchased here
