As the weather starts to cool down and we celebrate the official first day of fall this week, it’s the perfect opportunity to get out with friends and enjoy some of these fun events and activities happening at the University of Idaho.
Music
Three exciting concerts will be available to attend this week, beginning on Tuesday, Sept. 20 with the Joseph Murphy Saxophone Concert. Guest performer Murphy will be playing from 7:30–8:30 p.m. in the LHSOM Haddock Performance Hall and tickets are $10.
On Thursday, students and ensembles will be performing in the LHSOM Convocation I from 2:30–3:30 p.m. in the Haddock Performance Hall. Friday from 6:30–9:30 p.m. in the Administration Auditorium the jazz bands and jazz choirs will be performing, and tickets are $10. Tickets for all music events can be purchased here.
Take Back the Night
Part of Katy Benoit Campus Safety Month and in collaboration with the Women’s Center, this keynote address and rally will be happening Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. beginning in the Agricultural Science Auditorium.
This event will start with a keynote address regarding interpersonal violence and violence on campus, followed by a candlelit march around campus. Take Back the Night is free to attend and offers a unique opportunity to support and stand in solidarity with survivors of interpersonal violence.
Harvest Days
This two-day fall celebration will start Wednesday with apple cider and crafts available in the ISUB Plaza from 11 a.m.–1 p.m. On Thursday, beginning at 4 p.m. at the Tower Lawn, students can enjoy live music, animal exhibits from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, kettle corn and snacks as well as games to spend the first day of fall having fun with friends.
Outdoor Program
Once again, the Outdoor Program is hosting Open Kayak Pool sessions and Women’s Whitewater Kayak clinics from 7-9 p.m. in the UI Swim Center.
Anyone interested in signing up for the spike ball tournament must do so by Thursday in order to compete in tournament on Saturday.
Saturday, Sept. 24, the Outdoor Program will be taking a team of volunteers jet boating up the Snake River into Hells Canyon for a day of trail building in honor of National Public Lands Day of Service. Vandal Sports
Following the big football win last Saturday, fans can continue cheering on Vandal athletics with the games happening this week. Thursday, Vandal volleyball will be facing off against Sacramento State for their home opener at 6 p.m. in the Memorial Gym. Women’s Soccer will be playing Idaho State Sunday at 1 p.m. in the Kibbie Dome.
Get Rooted
Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon, students have the opportunity to help plant and maintain native trees and shrubs in the Palouse area. The Student Sustainability Cooperative along with the Palouse Clearwater Environmental Institute are hosting this event, and more information can be found here.
