Students will have a unique opportunity to receive a scholarship at the football home opener against Drake on Saturday.
“I will award one lucky student a $1,000 scholarship just for attending. You don’t need to do anything other than show up Saturday and sit in the student section. The winner will be randomly chosen and the award made at halftime,” President Scott Green announced in an email.
The student section in the Kibbie Dome seats 4,500, and with the team sideline change this season, it will be directly behind Drake.
With a new coaching staff, new lights, new players, the largest freshman class in over 20 years and now this scholarship — the Vandal football team is hoping to see the Dome packed this weekend.
“Not a sports fan? Give a game a try anyway. Like me, you might just find yourself caught up in the spirit,” Green said.
This year will also be the debut of the Vandal Village during the tailgate. Starting at 10 a.m. outside ICCU Arena, Vandal fans can enjoy food, games and the marching band before heading into the Dome for the noon kickoff.
