Rapidly organized after the news of the ruling came down from the United States Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade and ending the legal right to abortion, a group gathered in Friendship Square at 6 p.m. on June 24. The demonstration was formed by Bans Off Our Bodies Moscow, a group affiliated with Women’s March.
“It was a great, incredible turnout,” organizer Sara Zaske said.
She said the turnout was much bigger than the first demonstration that occurred after the Supreme Court’s draft on the case was leaked.
“If the Woman’s March marches again, we will march,” Zaske said.
Continuing to look into the future, Zaske said the city should expect to hear from them again.
“We’re planning on it, though, I need to discuss that with my leaders. Yeah. We’re planning on specific actions,” Zake said.
The demonstration marched from Friendship Square onto the Latah County Courthouse where protestors gathered in a circle and began chantings about the ruling. They called for solidarity with various groups and dissolved shortly afterward.

It’s an impossible position for the court to make a ruling on this issue: abortion. Abortions puts a woman’s liberty interests against a potential human being’s life interest. The proper remedy is for people to participate in the republic or Democratic process to effectuate change in the form of a constitutional amendment.
