With the overturn of Roe v. Wade, Idaho’s trigger law will make performing abortions illegal by the end of July, according to The Washington Post.
The 6-3 ruling in favor of overturning the 1973 Supreme Court decision allows states to set their own restrictions on abortions.
Idaho is one of 13 states that has a trigger law in place that will make performing abortions a felony 30 days after the ruling.
While the decision has been made, it will most likely take an additional 30 days for the judgment to be officially released according to the Idaho Capital Sun. This means it could take until the end of August, 60 days, for the abortion ban to come into play.
University of Idaho President Scott Green sent an email to students and employees asking them to be respectful during this challenging time.
“This decision will change the options available in our state, but the compassion, respect and support we bring to each other must not change. This is a difficult time for many in our community, be kind and embody what it means to be a member of the Vandal Family,” Green stated.
Green also reminded students and employees that the Women’s Center is available for support and that UI values inclusion and respect.
If in need of support or someone to talk to, the Women’s Center can be reached at 208-885-2777 or [email protected].
This story has been updated to reflect the estimated 60 days until abortion is banned.
