Terri Pickens Manweiler, a Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor and University of Idaho graduate, visited Moscow Feb. 21 at the 1912 Center as a part of her campaign. During this meeting she covered why she was running, key issues she planned to address and questions from audience members.
Manweiler’s key issues are public education, public lands and infrastructure, economic growth, and civil rights.
“Public education has been under attack by the Republican party since 2006,” Manweiler said.
Manweiler hopes to increase funding for schools, allowing kids to develop and become independent thinkers.
She wants to protect public lands from being sold as well as develop more rural parts of Idaho to have access to things like internet.
Another common theme throughout this meeting was criticism of current leadership as well as other state politicians running for office.
“Current executive officers have lost their right to hold their positions,” Manweiler said.
She also said that Republicans pass legislation to protect their own power rather than to benefit Idahoan people.
Manweiler believes the time is right for Democrats to step up and make progressive changes, as Idahoans are fed up with the current leadership.
