Weekly update: January sees a drastic increase in case numbers

Jan. 21’s update with COVID-19 statistics

Compared to November’s reports, COVID-19 case numbers have greatly increased. The week of Nov. 19 saw 3,474 new cases statewide and 149 in the local health district. In comparison, this week has seen 16,422 new cases statewide and 1,430 in the local health district.

Continuing on into the University of Idaho’s second semester, The Argonaut will have weekly updates on COVID-19 case numbers, vaccinations and more on both the district and state levels.

Gritman Medical Center

Information comes from Gritman’s bi-weekly press releases. Updated Jan. 19 at 11:59 p.m. 

Gritman’s updates are now available on a bi-weekly basis rather than weekly, with the next update being Feb. 3. This past week, Gritman has seen a 14.79% increase in their 7-day testing positivity rate. 

Total admitted positive patients during pandemic: 183

Latah County deaths: 42

Public Health – Idaho North Central District

Data used is from Public Health District 2. The local district consists of Latah, Clearwater, Idaho, Lewis and Nez Perce counties. Updated Jan. 21 at 3 p.m.

Vaccination numbers now range from ages 5+ rather than 12+. 

Active cases: 2,574

New cases (Jan. 21): 360

Cases this week (Jan. 15-21): 1,430

Fully vaccinated 5+: 46,685 (44%)

Fully vaccinated with a booster: 19,484 

Deaths: 257

Statewide

Data is according to Idaho’s COVID-19 page. Updated Jan. 21 at 5 p.m.
