Vandal women’s basketball took the win Tuesday night in their season opener against Lewis-Clark State.
The ICCU Arena roared with excitement as Vandals racked up a sizeable lead and ended the game 95-46. Sophomore guard Sydney Gandy was a standout for the Vandals. Gandy scored 20 points throughout the game.
After men’s basketball christened the new arena last week with its first exhibition game, women’s basketball was first to open its season in the new arena.
“There has been a lot of excitement and we have been waiting to have a real game in the ICCU Arena,” coach Jon Newlee stated in a press release. “It’s great that it is finally here but today’s win is just the start of a long process that hopefully will end with good things in March.”
On Wednesday night, men’s basketball will open its regular season against Long Beach State University.
Vandal women’s basketball will be back on Sunday, Nov. 14, to take on the University of San Diego.
