This was a huge week in Seattle sports, with a glorious win in football, new jerseys in hockey, and upcoming games for baseball.

Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks started their season on the road against the Indianapolis Colts. The Seahawks walked out of Lucas Oil Stadium with a victory and a four-touchdown performance from quarterback Russell Wilson. Running back Chris Carson added 91 yards on the ground and receivers Tyler Lockett and D.K. Metcalf combined for 160 yards and three touchdowns. The defense showed up, recording three sacks on Colts quarterback Carson Wentz.

The Seahawks won the game, 28-16, and will play the Tennessee Titans in their home opener at Lumen Field Sunday Sept. 19 at 1:25 p.m. PST.

Kraken

The Pacific Northwest’s newest hockey team, the Seattle Kraken, released their jerseys on Sept. 15 and opened their practice facility to the public. The Kraken start their preseason on Sept. 26 against the Vancouver Canucks.

Mariners

The Seattle Mariners have been gaining ground in the AL wild card hunt. The Mariners are closer than they were earlier in the month. They currently sit at four games behind in the wild card, with AL West division rivals Oakland Athletics, and Boston Red Sox both ahead of them. The Mariners have gone 4-6 in their last ten games and dropped two out of three games to the Red Sox. Their next game is against the Kansas City Royals on Sept. 17 at 5:10 p.m. PST.

Sounders

The Seattle Sounders are another team in the PNW that have been doing well. The Sounders beat Santos Laguna 1-0 in the semi-final of the 2021 Leagues Cup and will face Léon in the final of the League Cup on Sept. 22. The Sounders are also looking strong in the MLS standings. The Sounders are second in the conference and only one point behind Sporting KC. They will face Real Salt Lake Sept. 18 before facing Sporting KC on Sept. 26 in a game that will likely determine first place in the conference.

It is a good time to be a Seattle fan, and as there are so many Seattle fans in the Palouse, it’s especially a good time to be a Seattle fan in the area. Hockey, baseball, soccer and basketball are all in good and exciting places. Something that is rare for any sports city. Now if only they can bring the SuperSonics back.

This story has been updated to clarify when the Kraken released jerseys.
