University of Idaho will switch from Blackboard Learn to Canvas in January of 2022, according to an email announcement from UI Provost and Executive Vice President Torrey Lawrence.
Coming classes in spring are already being converted to the new learning management system Canvas. As previously reported on by The Argonaut, UI’s contract with Blackboard Learn is up for renewal and the change has been planned for some time.
Along with this, the Idaho State Board of Education has paid for three years of Canvas, and it is already widely used across the state.
“Change is not always easy,” Lawrence stated in the email. “However, I am confident that moving to Canvas is the right decision for us. The time to make the move is now.”
The confidence in the quality of Canvas comes from a UI report in which a group of faculty and students in 23 courses tested the platform, and gave “overwhelmingly positive” feedback.
The email stated the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning will provide trainings and consultations for faculty, and more information will come soon from the implementation team.
