Nick Gilbert will be stepping in as the new University of Idaho offensive line coach, according to a press release by Vandal Athletics, following the retirement of Kris Cinkovich back in April.
The position won’t be Gilbert’s first time involved with the UI football team. Gilbert is a Vandal alumni and was a graduate assistant at the university in 2013, working alongside Cinkovich and the offensive line.
“I got a master’s degree from here, met my wife here, she’s a Vandal alumni. It just always holds a special place,” Gilbert stated in the press release. “I’ve always told myself I’d love to get back to the Palouse, and now I have the ability to give back to the university and the program like it did to me, so I’m excited.”
Leaving Moscow, Gilbert spent a season with the University of Memphis offensive line, later coaching at the University of Louisville and Concord University. He eventually returned to Memphis, and is now making his way back to Moscow in the upcoming season.
“It’s great to have Nick on board,” UI Head Coach Paul Petrino stated in the press release. “It really helps that he’s been around the offense, both when he was here before and then being at Louisville, and even at Memphis the first time. He has a lot of experience, he’s a great, young mind and I think he’s going to be a real star in this profession. I can’t wait to get him out there and get him started.”
