University of Idaho Athletics events will not hold fans during the 2020-21 winter season due to Idaho Gov. Brad Little’s decision to move Idaho from Stage Three to Stage Two of the Idaho Rebounds.
Fans will not be able to attend live events this season. Basketball games and swim and dive events will continue without fans.
Vandal Athletics will continue to assess the situation regularly to determine if adjustments can be made and then decide to allow fans.
“In partnership with Idaho Public Health, medical experts and university leadership, we have determined it is best to play our upcoming home events without fans. This will remain in effect until it is deemed reasonable to allow spectators in our venues,” Terry Gawlik, Director of Athletics, said. “Of course this will be disappointing for our student-athletes, families, coaches and fans, but I know our Vandal teams will embrace the opportunity to compete.”
Stage Two brings several restrictions that include limited gatherings of large groups of people in indoor spaces to a maximum of 10 people. Other protocols were put into place as well to help combat the spread of COVID-19 and limit the potential risk.
UI women’s basketball is set to open the season Nov. 25 with a home game against Lewis-Clark State College and will play three more home games in December. The men’s team will not play at home until Dec. 31.
The swim and dive team competed last weekend against Seattle University winning all three events. They are scheduled to compete again Nov. 20 and Nov. 21 against Washington State University at the UI Swim Center.
All home basketball games will be streamed through the PlutoTV app on channel 1010. Swim and dive events can be streamed through Facebook Live at govandals.com/VandalAthletics.
