Plans to return to campus for the Spring 2021 semester are in the works, according to an email today from University of Idaho President C. Scott Green and Interim Provost and Executive Vice President Torrey Lawrence.
The email stated there would be no plan to alter the semester calendar. A survey earlier in the month asked UI faculty, staff and students whether they preferred to delay, cancel or keep Spring Break the way it was. Out of all respondents, 42% preferred to delay Spring Break, 40% preferred no change to the schedule and 17% preferred to cancel Spring Break.
Next semester, classes will begin Jan. 13, Spring Break will be March 15-19 and exam week will end May 14, the email stated. Commencement is tentatively scheduled for May 15.
“We are obviously in a dynamic environment,” the email stated. “The availability of a vaccine could alter the path we are taking, but for now, we are assuming COVID-19 will be with us through the spring.”
Students who want to attend in-person classes in Moscow must be tested for COVID-19. Classes will begin remotely as students return and complete the testing process. More details will be shared in November.
There will be no web fee for Hyflex or Virtual Meeting courses next semester. Online (web) and Hybrid courses, which have asynchronous online portions, will have a $35 per credit web fee. These fees have been updated in the course schedule.
The university will continue to follow directions from the governor’s office, including today’s announcement of a return to Stage Three of Idaho Rebounds, and collaborate with Public Health – Idaho North Central District and Gritman Medical Center.
