Anti-mask mandate protest scheduled in Lewiston today

At least seven other Idaho cities now require masks

Breaking News Graphic

A protest against mandatory face coverings will take place at 6 p.m. today at the Lewiston City Library.

The demonstration is in response to City Manager Alan Nygaard’s planned recommendation to strongly advise the use of face coverings when social distancing is difficult.

The event is organized by Heather Rogers, operator of the Liberate Idaho Facebook page. Rogers also organized a Second Amendment Rally on June 6 and a protest advocating for the removal of Councilor Bob Blakey on June 22.

According to the event’s Facebook page, “Say No to the Mask Mandate,” protesters are planning to inform city council of their intent to not wear masks should the city require them.

“Nygaard is wanting to force us to be masked,” the event’s page said. “We will be gathering together to address Lewiston City Council and inform them we will not bow down to a tyrannical law. If people choose to wear masks we support their choice but we do not support a law that orders us to wear a mask.”

Many Idaho cities have already implemented some sort of face covering mandate, including Moscow, McCall, Boise, Hailey, Ketchum, Victor and Driggs.

Choosing to wear a mask is like choosing to be a jerk. Your either are a jerk, or your considerate of others and are not. I wonder if these same people who don't want to be told what they can and can't do, try and tell a woman what she can and can't do with her own body?
