July 3, 1985
Fourth of July weekend is coming up this weekend, although celebrations look a little different due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This short article provided readers with information about local Fourth of July celebrations, including fireworks, parades and concerts.
July 6, 1994
For the upcoming school year, UI parking permits are now available for purchase. This 1994 article outlines an increase in parking permit fees for the first time in four years at the time. Permits ranged from $25 to $140 at that point, which would equate to about $43 to $242 in today’s dollar value. Right now, annual permits range from $77 to $366.
July 2, 1997
Back in 1997, an oven typically used for glassware caught fire, igniting a preparation room in the UI Life Science South Building Microbiology, Molecular Biology and Biochemistry department. Smoke alarms were turned off in the building due to construction: dust from skill saws and other tools could have caused false alarms.
June 27, 2001
The Idaho Repertory Theatre began its 48th season with the play “The Glass Menagerie.” The play opened at Hartung Theatre. Performances ran from late June, through July. The accompanying photos are clear, which is not typical of many photos in the Argonaut Digital Collection.
June 27, 2003
The trend of students leaving Moscow for the summer and the accompanying decrease in business hits just as hard now just as it did back in 2003. This article outlines different ways businesses tried to attract more customers during the summer. For example, Tri-State held more sales during the summer while other local businesses relied on products only available in the summer to increase their sales. Papa Murphy’s reported selling 20 to 30 fewer pizzas per day when students left in the summer.

One year ago, this week, UI President C. Scott Green began his three-year contract as the 19th president of the university. Green graduated from UI in 1984 with a degree in Accounting. For the full story on Green’s transition into the presidency, check out this story.
