May 21, 1912
Writing previews for plays can be boring for seasoned journalists because these stories typically have a similar format. But, this preview for a play starts out as if it’s telling a story about a person. The headline is eye-catching and draws readers into this unique preview.
May 25, 1923
In 1923, a “dramatic” fraternity was created at UI. The fraternity, called “The Curtain,” was comprised of men interested in theater. The organization also helped promote theater work at UI.
May 21, 1929
The ASUI executive board allowed social organizations at UI to hold six dances a year instead of three. The rule was previously interpreted as three dances per semester instead of per year. This didn’t include events that weren’t prescheduled.
May 19, 1950
A unique team called the Danish Gym team performed in the Memorial Gym. They performed gymnastics, Danish folk dancing and more during their time at UI. The team was comprised of men and women from Denmark.
May 26, 2004
Jay D. Kenton was appointed the chief financial officer in 2004. The article outlines the financial challenges he faced at the time and the fact that he wanted open communication in his new position. The ASUI President at the time was impressed by Kenton.
