Every year, students have gathered together to paint houses in the community for those who are unable to do it themselves, either due to financial or physical restraints, for the event Paint the Palouse.
In the past, participants have painted at least one house. This year the number will depend on the amount of money they receive, as well as the number of applications for houses to paint. The deadline to apply to have a house painted is April 30. Once the house(s) are decided, all of the applicants will be notified.
Area assistant and University of Idaho student Ivie Linger has been involved with Paint the Palouse since her freshman year. For her first two years, she helped paint and this year she is helping plan the event. Linger, four other students and their advisor plan everything from getting supplies ready, to designing t-shirts given to volunteers.
“I love Paint the Palouse, I think it’s a really great way to combine the student community with the local community,” Linger said.
Linger said this event not only allows students to provide a service to the community, but it also allows them to feel like they have a place in Moscow outside of the university. Linger said their goal this year is to make as big of an impact as possible.
