University of Idaho Executive Vice President and Provost John Wiencek has accepted a new position at The University of Akron (UA).
Wiencek will start his position as Executive Vice President and Provost of UA on May 29.
This move will be a return home for Wiencek, who went to high school 10 miles from UA in Akron, Ohio.
President C. Scott Green said in an email today, Wiencek has led UI in several projects, including “developing a strategic plan, program assessment and modifications, difficult budget decisions” and improving communication with faculty.
Green added in the email he will launch a national search for Wiencek’s successor and is in the process of choosing an interim provost.
Wiencek will succeed Interim Provost Joseph Urgo at UA. Urgo began last November.
Wiencek will continue Urgo’s work by leading in “redefining and implementing the priorities for the Office of Academic Affairs and bolstering UA’s research prominence and productivity,” a UA press release stated. Enrollment strategy, optimizing academic processes and developing leadership will also be part of Wiencek’s responsibilities.
UA President Gary Miller stated Wiencek is an excellent match for the job and looks forward to having him on the leadership team.
