You don't have to be bored during this time

Here at the Argonaut, we’ve been consistently putting out two event calendars for our LIFE and News sections that spread the word about events going on in our area.

In response to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s restrictions on event sizes, events are cancelled. This leaves many people without very much to do in their free time. So, here are some things you can do while you’re at home.

Improve your baking skills

Grocery stores are open right now, so go out and pick up some items that you never thought about trying to make before. Now’s your time to make those Pinterest recipes or those meals in your recipe book you haven’t touched in a long time. This can be something you do with those you live with to keep you occupied.

Catch up on Netflix (or on your favorite streaming service)

Most people’s favorite indoor activity is to binge Netflix, Hulu, Disney+ or whatever streaming service they have. Now is the time to do that. Do it with a friend or do it by yourself.

Read a good book

With a busy life it can be hard to sit down and crack open a good book. Curl up in a blanket and enjoy a whole afternoon or evening by yourself reading.

Try some arts and crafts

Arts and crafts are fun at any age; it just takes creativity and patience. Take some time for yourself and finish the project that’s been sitting in your closet for weeks.

Find new organizational techniques

Everyone can be more organized, no matter who they are. Clutter can take over our lives and hinder our ability to find things or get things done. Don’t let clutter take over, find new ways to organize and stay organized. There are plenty of YouTube videos out there that will get your creative juices flowing.

Play some board games

There are plenty of board games out there you can play with a few people. Keep yourself and under 10 friends entertained. Plus, it’s in person hang out time, and that’s always better than virtually hanging out.

At home workout

There are plenty of at home workouts you could try. Whether it be YouTube videos or lists on Pinterest (or most social media platforms) telling you to do certain workouts when something happens on a television show or movie, get up and get active. Even though you’re inside, there’s no excuse to not keep active.

Take a nap

Things are stressful right now. I’m sure you have a million and one commitments right now, so take some time and just take a nap. Don’t sleep your day away, but take a quick cat nap. You’ll be rested and rejuvenated.

Read the news

It seems like updates on COVID-19, and everything else going on right now, are happening every hour. It can be stressful to read about sad or scary things, but it’s good to stay informed.  Most if not all newspapers have some form of an entertainment section bound to have fun and entertaining articles to read to keep your spirits up.

Play video games

Animal Crossing is the craze right now, but there are plenty of video games out there. So, pick up that controller you haven’t touched in a while, and take your mind off things. Play with a friend or two, or video chat with each other while you play.
