An emergency policy signed by President C. Scott Green now allows administration more room to take action in response to COVID-19.

Signed Mar. 20, the temporary COVID-19 Virus Emergency Response Policy is intended to address changes that need to be made to better protect UI.

The policy allows administrators at the vice president or equivalent level to take temporary actions to address the pandemic, even if measures taken are inconsistent with existing university policy.

Administrative actions must first be approved by Green. In accordance with the policy, a notice must also be published on the University’s COVID-19 Web Page to alert the community.

The emergency policy will stay in effect for 180 days or until Green withdraws it.

This policy comes as many university functions transition online to aid in slowing the transmission of COVID-19.

“It is my sense that we will go to holistic virtual operations as a campus, with exceptions for essential personnel very soon” Green’s policy statement reads, “We will need to discuss what that means and how we will proceed in the coming week.”
