Idaho State University (ISU) and Lewis-Clark State College (LCSC) announced the cancelation of their commencement ceremonies Monday after universities decide to transition to online classes. The University of Idaho has yet to make a decision.
Idaho State University has canceled all events through May 15. This includes both on and off campus events sponsored by the university.
“The University’s event team is quickly working on a plan to celebrate graduates without holding an in-person commencement ceremony on May 9. Details about the alternate celebration will be shared in the near future,” according to an ISU press release.
LCSC is also discussing alternative celebration plans, according to an LCSC press release. Graduating seniors will receive their diplomas despite the cancelation of the commencement ceremony.
“This was not an easy decision,” LCSC President Cynthia Pemberton in the press release said. “I understand that commencement is one of the most cherished and memorable moments in a student’s academic journey. Unfortunately, this spring we will have to forgo the tradition.”
UI administration has not yet made a decision on canceling commencement but is holding meetings throughout the next couple of days to discuss plans for spring semester scheduling, Jodi Walker UI’s director of communications said.
