Kenworthy Performing Arts Center announced Monday they will temporarily close the theater until April 9 due to concerns of the health and safety of the community during the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.
The Kenworthy previously increased sanitation and cleaning efforts, limited seating during events as well as other measures.
According to the Kenworthy’s website, the staff will receive full pay through the end of March.
The Kenworthy is a non-profit organization, meaning they receive funding from screenings, when people rent out the space and from the community. While the theater is closed, they are looking to find new ways to continue to expand revenue streams. Their website says information about this will be coming soon.
“We want to thank our community for sticking together and staying strong during this challenging and constantly changing time,” Christine Gilmore, executive director of the Kenworthy said in a news release. “We have always been lifted by the community we serve, and your support during this challenging time is deeply and particularly appreciated.”
Updates on the Kenworthy and what they are doing during this closure can be found on their website or on their social media.
The Argonaut will continue to update as more information becomes available.
