On Friday the state of Idaho announced its first confirmed case of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). The University of Idaho has moved classes online for an unknown period of time, and the city of Moscow — as well as the state of Idaho — declared a state of emergency concerning COVID-19.
As journalists, this is the time we are needed most, to provide clarity and security as our community tries to make sense of the events happening around it.
The Argonaut team is working hard to provide the most accurate information we can as quickly as possible. These are unprecedented times and, while concerning, The Argonaut is prepared and planning for our next steps.
With the university closure The Argonaut will go completely online. It is unfeasible to continue a print product without a campus community to read it, but we firmly believe in the importance of student journalism at this time.
We have already begun preparing for the increase of online content, adding areas on our website specifically for coronavirus coverage and preparing our design team to work on comprehensive online layouts.
We will be reactivating our newsletter which will be sent out via email. We will also be increasing our presence on our social media platforms Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
The Argonaut is available to all of our readers. We know the news can we overwhelming right now so for those having a hard time staying up to date we have created a timeline which will be constantly updated as more information regarding COVID-19 becomes known.
If you have any questions or concerns reach out and let us know. We will do everything in our power to find the answers you need. We have also created an anonymous tip line for those who wish to remain unidentified.
Our team understands the sensitivity of this issue and the importance of our role as this information unfolds.
