The NCAA Divison II Administrative Committee has announced that there will be a dead period for recruiting across all sports until April 15.
“Today, the Divison II Administrative Committee implemented a recruiting dead period on all sports at least until April 15. The committee provided flexibility for schools to assist student-athletes with travel, in addition to the already permitted housing and meals,” according to a statement from the NCAA Divison II Administrative Committee. “The committee granted an additional season of eligibility to athletes in spring sports, and waived sports sponsorship requirements for schools canceling spring seasons.”
The NCAA Divison I announced that in-person recruiting for coaches is banned until April 15.
Friday, the NCAA has decided to address a rule change that would allow for Division I student-athletes in spring sports to participate for an additional year but a decision has not been made on the NCAA granting eligibility relief to athletes in winter sports whose seasons were cut short due to coronavirus concerns.
“Council leadership agreed that eligibility relief is appropriate for all Division I student athletes who participated in spring sports,” according to a statement from the Division I Council Coordination Committee. “Additional issues with NCAA rules must be addressed, and appropriate governance bodies will work through those in the coming days and weeks.”
The Division I Council Coordination Committee also decided to ban in-person recruiting.
“The Council leadership put in place an immediate ban on in-person recruiting for Division I coaches. Additionally, the group advised schools to suspend any official and unofficial visits to campus from prospective student-athletes,” according to a statement from the Division I Council Coordination Committee. “This recruiting dead period will be in place until at least April 15, at which time the Division I Council Coordination Committee will evaluate. Telephone calls and written correspondence are allowed during dead periods.”
The Division III Administrative Committee announced changes for campus displacement for students.
“Today, the Division III Administrative Committee provided flexibility for schools to assist students with travel, lodging and meals as a result of campus displacements. The committee waived all requirements for sports sponsorship for spring season. It also granted an additional season/semester of eligibility for student-athletes participating in spring sports,” according to an NCAA Division III press release.
