The Idaho men’s basketball team broke a six-game losing streak Saturday with a win in the Battle of the Domes against rival Idaho State 80-76. Senior guard Trevon Allen and graduate student forward Quinton Forrest celebrated a win on senior day.
“Coming off a win, it’s a great feeling and now it’s all about our preparation and getting ready for our first game,” Forrest said.
The Vandals move on to the Big Sky Conference Tournament as the No. 10 seed and play in the first round of the tournament against the No. 7 seed, Southern Utah Thunderbirds, on Wednesday.
“I think we are confident especially after a win like this. We have the shortest travel trip, so we are prepared to go down ( to Boise) and get settled in,” Allen said.
The Vandals traveled to Boise on Monday to prepare for the 2020 BSC Men’s Basketball Tournament. The Vandals and the Thunderbirds start their game 30 minutes after No. 8 Weber State and No. 9 Sacramento State finish their game.
“The biggest thing for us to have a huge impact in the Big Sky Tournament is to play an almost perfect game, which is something we’ve done. We’ve competed with every team in the Big Sky,” Allen said.
The Vandals played the Thunderbirds twice this season and lost both matchups by 20 points or more. Southern Utah’s leading scorer, senior Cameron Oluyitan, led in scoring in both matchups and is the top scorer for the Thunderbirds this season with 415 points.
Idaho will move on to face No. 2 Northern Colorado if they can secure a win against the Thunderbirds.
