During Tuesday’s Faculty Senate meeting, University of Idaho Vice Provost for Faculty Torrey Lawrence informed attendees that classes will move online March 23 and 24.
The movement to online classes is a test to ensure that online classes will work in case of a coronavirus outbreak.
“There are no plans at this point to move online for any length of time,” UI Director of Communications Jodi Walker said in an interview after Faculty Senate. “(The university is) just trying to get everyone to think about it and then testing the system so we can make sure all the resources are in place, should we need to move online at some point during the semester.”

The intent is for students to self-monitor and self-report on their condition after traveling over spring break. The Zoom meeting platform is prepared for the increase of use, and campus will remain open, Lawrence said.
The university will continue to assess the situation and address whether there is a need for classes to move online for an extended period of time.
The Argonaut will continue to update as more information becomes available.
